St Avalo
Los Olivos District, California, US.
A small, family-owned winery producing wines in limited batches located in the Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara County, California. They organically grow eight grape varietals and craft their wines with a focus on small-scale, high-quality production. They practice organic farming in their vineyards, showing a strong commitment to environmental stewardship.
Quattrocieli
Alcamo, Sicily, Italy.
A small, family-owned winery producing wines in limited batches located in Alcamo, Trapani province, on the island of Sicily. The winery was founded in 2015 by Leonardo and his children, driven by a passion to create wines that authentically represent Sicily. They have about 20 hectares of vineyards, spread across four different terroirs: Alcamo, Calatafimi, Salaparuta, and Gibellina. They operate under strict organic principles: no pesticides, artificial fertilizers, or herbicides. Quattrocieli is working to minimize its CO₂ emissions, using photovoltaic and solar thermal panels to move toward a near-zero balance. They cultivate native Sicilian grapes such as Nero d’Avola, Catarratto, Inzolia (Insolia), Grillo, alongside Syrah. Only native yeasts are used during fermentation.
Gustinella
Maletto, Sicily, Italy.
A small, family-owned winery producing wines in limited batches located in the village of Maletto, on the north-western slope of Mount Etna, Sicily. The project is led by winemaker Sonia Gambino, who returned to her ancestral land. Vineyard Size is less than 2 hectares. The vineyards sit at around 1,000–1,200 meters above sea level, giving them a cool mountain climate. Sonia uses low intervention winemaking, entirely manual work in the vineyard, no synthetic chemicals, spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts. Focus on local varieties Grenache (called “Granazzu” locally), Grecanico Dorato, plus more than fifteen other less common and some still unidentified grapes! Sonia practices organic farming without chemical treatments. Fermentation takes place spontaneously; aging in stainless-steel, cement vats, or demijohns depending on the wine.
